Columbia woman hit while walking on Highway 40

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 55-year-old Columbia woman was hospitalized with serious injuries Tuesday night after she was hit while walking on Highway 40.

She was later arrested.

Joanna Roe was walking in the road at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a 2004 GMC Yukon driving westbound on Highway 40, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. The driver, Shaun Smith, 35, of Columbia, was not hurt.

Roe was taken to University of Missouri Hospital with serious injuries, the patrol said. She was in good condition Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.

Troopers arrested Roe about two hours later on suspicion of methamphetamine possession, misdemeanor marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia, according to an online arrest report.
