CPS calls early release, road crews prepare for winter weather

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools are releasing schools two and a half hours early on Wednesday ahead of a winter storm.

CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark tweeted about the early release at 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team extended a Weather Alert Day for accumulating snow and bitterly cold wind chills. The Weather Alert Day is in effect from Wednesday until Friday morning.

Most areas of Mid-Missouri could see 2-5" of snow by the early evening. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for 9 a.m. Wednesday until midnight on Thursday.

Columbia city leaders announced a plow crew is coming into work at 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Crews pre-treated roads on Tuesday.
