Unattended cooking caused more than $4,000 worth of fire damage at a Columbia home Wednesday night, according to the Columbia Fire Department.

One person was taken to the hospital after the house fire broke out on College Avenue Wednesday night. The person had lung, hand and wrist injuries, CFD said in a news release.

Crews responded to the 1100 block of N. College Avenue just after 8 p.m. Multiple Columbia police officers, firefighters as well as an ambulance were at the scene. Firefighters said the fire was contained to the kitchen, and it caused $4,170 in damage.
