Columbia police search for armed suspect after robbery on Rangeline St.

Police are searching for an individual after an armed robbery behind a restaurant on Rangeline St. on Saturday.

A La Siesta employee was on his break in his car when he was robbed at gunpoint behind La Siesta in the 3800 block of Rangeline St. around 3:45 p.m., police said.

"At this point, all we know is that he did have a weapon we believe that he is armed and dangerous," said Brian Tate, a Columbia Police Department lieutenant.

Police and deputies used a drone on Saturday to look for an armed robbery suspect

The suspect, wearing a black hoodie pulled over his face, demanded money and hit the victim in the head with a revolver then fled on foot. The suspect, described as a male last wearing a black hoodie, is not in custody. He was last seen running east towards Spencers Crest Condominiums on Kennesaw Ridge.

"Right now he was last seen traveling eastbound from the back of the business toward the Kennesaw Ridge area and Derby Ridge area," Tate said.

EMS treated the victim on scene for minor injuries to his head.

A drone and a K-9 unit were used to search for the suspect.

Police and Boone County deputies were stationed near Smiley Ln. and Saddlebrook Pl., according to ABC 17 News crews.

"We'll definitely follow up with leads and look for any cameras in the area that might be able to give us some evidence," Tate said.
