Columbia house fire claims dog’s life

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A dog was killed and a home suffered extensive smoke damage in a fire Monday afternoon.

The smoke damage could be seen from outside the home on Burrwood Drive in southwest Columbia. Firefighters said there was heavy fire damage in the room where the blaze started.

Firefighters said one person was in the house and called 911. One dog was rescued but died, firefighters at the scene said.

It wasn't immediately clear what started the fire.
