COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A small artificial Christmas tree caught fire Monday, damaging a west Columbia home.

Columbia Fire Department Assistant Chief Jerry Jenkins said one person was home when the fire started and found flames and smoke on the home's second level. The blaze, which started in a Christmas tree, caused smoke damage on the second floor of the Day Flower Court home, Jenkins said.

No one was injured in the fire, he said.
