Jefferson City man flown to hospital after crash

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 26-year-old Jefferson City man was flown to University Hospital in Columbia after a Cole County crash Thursday evening.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened at about 8 p.m. on Elston Road, northwest of Jefferson City. The crash occurred when Emmit Coots Jr., 87, tried to turn left into a driveway. The patrol says Coots' full-size pickup truck was hit in the front by a Ford Ranger driven by Austin Kleindienst.

Kleindienst was flown by helicopter to University Hospital with serious injuries. Coots had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

An update on Kleindienst's condition was not available Friday.
