Jefferson City man killed in Highway 54 crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man died after his truck was hit as it tried to cross Highway 54.

Harry Bemboom, 66, was pronounced dead Wednesday at University Hospital after the Tuesday crash, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The crash happened Tuesday morning at Buffalo Road and Highway 54 when Bemboom tried to cross Highway 54 in his Mazda pickup truck, the patrol said. The truck was hit in the side by a Mazda Protege traveling on Highway 54.

The Protege's driver, Dennis Haupt, 68, of Sunrise Beach, suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the car, Jodi Haupt, 63, of Sunrise Beach, suffered moderate injuries, the patrol said.

Bemboom was not wearing a seat belt.
