Woman dead after lying on train tracks in Cole County

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 35-year-old Missouri woman died Sunday after she was lying on tracks and was hit by a train in Cole County.

The incident happened at about 11 p.m. on Union Pacific railroad tracks, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. Heather Tatkenhorst, 35, of Gerald, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene after a train hit her while she was lying on the tracks.

Tatkenhorst was taken to the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office.

Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler referred questions to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Patrol spokesman Sgt. Scott White it was unknown why the woman was on the tracks.
