Firefighters said no injuries were reported after crews extinguished a hay bale fire southeast of Jefferson City on Monday night.

The Osage Fire Protection District responded to the 8000 block of Liberty Road before 6 p.m. Crews said 35 hay bales were on fire 10 feet away from a metal building.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire on the outside of the bales, but a fire protection district spokesman said the inside of the bales were still smoldering. The property owner moved the smoking bales with a tractor to another area, crews continued putting out the smoldering bales.

Firefighters are investigating what caused the fire. About 30 firefighters and nine fire apparatuses responded to the fire.
