Camden County announces burn ban through end of month

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A burn ban has been announced for Camden County until 5 p.m. April 1, according to a social media post from Camden County Emergency Management.

The ordinance was passed on Tuesday, days after the southwest portion of the county was devastated by fires and recent storms. The ordinance includes all of Camden County and punishment ranges from a $250 fine up to a misdemeanor charge, according to the ordinance.

The Lake Ozark Fire Protection District also announced a ban within its jurisdiction, a press release says.

“The current forecasted temperatures, wind conditions, humidity levels and moisture content of ground cover make opening burning extremely hazardous. This ban will remain in effect until April 1, 2025, unless the Fire District finds it necessary to extend the ban,” the release says.

High winds are expected to come through Mid-Missouri again on Wednesday, prompting the ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team to declare a Weather Alert Day.

A wind advisory and red flag warning were issued by the National Weather Service through Wednesday night.
