Southwest Camden County firefighter shot during house fire

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

One firefighter was shot after a loaded gun discharged during a house fire in Macks Creek on Monday night.

According to a Facebook post, Southwest Camden County Fire Protection District responded to a house fire after an explosion occurred in the basement at 9:24 p.m. on Monday.

The post states crews arrived to find the first floor on fire, but were able to save most of the home.

One firefighter was hurt after a loaded gun inside the home went off, the post says. The firefighter was treated at the scene, according to Southwest Camden County Fire.

The fire protection district wrote that flooding impacted the response time of crews. One tanker fire truck was also damaged because of high waters.

All of the people inside the home were able to safely leave the home and were not hurt.
