COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A St. Louis-area woman was in fair condition Monday at a Columbia hospital after she was hurt Sunday afternoon in a boat explosion on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Debra Kiely, 52, of O'Fallon, Missouri, was flown to University of Missouri Hospital after the explosion at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday in McCoy Branch Cove. Kiely was standing on a dock and was thrown into the water by the boat explosion, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The 33-foot boat exploded after its second engine started, the patrol said. It wasn't clear what caused the explosion.

The boat's driver, Dennis Kiely, 55, of O'Fallon, was thrown into the water and had minor injuries.

A worker at the gas pump, Megan Bartels, 20, of Montreal, Missouri, also suffered minor injuries.

The boat went adrift and burned to the water line, the patrol reported.
