The City of Auxvasse let go its fire chief, Rebecca Stone, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, according to a press release from the city and social media post from the fire department.

The City of Auxvasse wrote on its Facebook page on Friday night that it plans to hold a meeting on Thursday with firefighters and those looking to become volunteer firefighters.

“There will be an Auxvasse Fire Department meeting on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. to meet with all Auxvasse volunteer firefighters and anyone else who is interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter to help save lives in the community you live in. If you are a volunteer and cannot make it that night please reach out to the city at 573-386-2227. Hope to see you there!” the post says.

This comes after the city fired its previous fire chief, Rebecca Stone, on July 11. The city wrote in a release that only Stone was let go following a “unanimous decision by the city council” and that volunteers were not dismissed.

A post attributed to Stone on the Fire Department’s Facebook page claimed that all fire department members were let go. The city’s press release claimed the Fire Department’s page was “not an official channel.”
