Safety is top priority at Holts Summit Fireworks Festival
HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. (KMIZ)
Holts Summit hosted its annual Fireworks Festival in Greenway Park on Friday night.
The family event includes live music performances, food vendors, a petting zoo and a stand out firework show. With people of all ages attending the festival, safety is of the upmost importance. Holts Summit in partnership with their fireworks vendor, J and M displays, have a game plan to keep their Fourth of July safe.
Display Operator Dave Helmick helped oversee safety plans, which were completed according to state regulations and approved by the fire marshal prior to the event.
All explosions are centralized to a "fall zone" that is separated from the viewing fields by a bright orange safety fence. Greenway Park, which has a walking track and frisbee golf course will be patrolled by police and fire officials to make sure nobody crosses into the fall zone.
"All our firework shows that we do, we use licensed professional shooters that are certified by the state fire Marshal's office," Helmick said.
Holts Summit Police Department Capt. Caleb Groner said the department is working with the Holts Summit Fire Protection District, among other first responders to ensure the event is safe.
As the fireworks show is set to start at dusk, plenty of officers and licensed fireworks operators are on the scene ready for an emergency.
