FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the identity of a man whose body was found floating in the Missouri River in May 2019 near Tebbetts.

But, it’s trying to get extra help by using the crowdfunding website DNASolves to raise funds for the remaining casework costs, according to a social media post from the department that was made on Wednesday evening. On Thursday afternoon, there was $229.86 contributed to the cause, with an overall goal of $7,500.

“In 2023, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office teamed with Othram to leverage advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy to develop investigative leads in hopes of identifying the man. Anyone with information that could aid in the investigation is encouraged to contact the Callaway County Sheriff's Office at 573-642-7291 and reference case number 19-9537 or anonymously via Crimestoppers at 573-592-2474 or online at www.callawaysheriff.org.,” the post reads.

The sheriff’s office asked the public for help identifying the man in August 2019, according to previous reporting.

The post states the man was estimated to be “just under 50 years old,” was between 5-feet-8-inches tall and 5-foot-10, and was between 170-200 pounds. The man was not wearing any clothes when he was found. An autopsy was conducted.

The man had a tattoo on his right chest that includes the words “J DIDDY” and “J DAWG” around the letter “D.” He also had some facial hair on the left side of his face which appeared to be remnants of a beard, the post says. Due to the condition of his remains, no other identifying characteristics could be determined, according to the post.
