Nathan Nickolaus, who is the attorney for city, said the city is likely going to wait until the April election for a new mayor to be picked. Alderman Clifford Wenneker has been serving as the mayor pro tem after former Mayor Ronald Dye stepped down Oct. 10.
Wenneker will serve as the mayor pro tem until the April election. Whoever is selected by voters as the new mayor will serve out the remainder of a four-year term. Dye was elected in the April 2023 election.
ABC 17 News reached out to the city.
It was previously stated by Nickolaus that a new mayor could have been appointed by the City Council in an open meeting, following a nomination by an alderman. If a mayor was appointed, they would have served until the April election.
The next City Council meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 14. Dye had stated in a resignation letter that he stepped down due to backlash from residents
