A Boonville man injured his hand Thursday morning after a homemade explosive blew up after an accidental detonation, according to a release by the Boonville police.

Boonville police responded to a report of a man with a bleeding cut hand on the 900 block of Ravenel Street at 7:20 a.m.

Officials say Ryan Brooks, 43, had a serious injury to his hand and abdomen. Brooks told an officer a homemade firecracker caused his injuries.

During the investigation, police report Brooks accidentally detonated a homemade explosive device inside the basement of the house while he was in the process of making the device according to a release.

Police reportedly seized chemicals and other paraphernalia used in the manufacturing of improvised explosive devices, meth and associated drug paraphernalia.

Boonville Police Captain Joe Pangburn says, "there was no school in session during this time and so no action had to be taken involving the school."

Brooks has not been arrested or charged at the time of the release.
