Boone County makes up more than 13% of Missouri cyclosporiasis cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

More than 13% of cyclosporiasis cases in Missouri are located in Boone County.

The latest state data that was updated on Sunday shows that 593 cases of the diarrhea-inducing disease have been reported in the state.

As of Monday afternoon, 79 cases of cyclosporiasis have been reported in Boone County, according to Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services spokesman Austin Krohn. There were 53 cases in the county reported this past Tuesday.

The FDA announced on Friday that it is investigating iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico that was recalled by Taylor Farms.

“On July 19, 2026, FDA provided an update about a false positive sample collected at the border. To clarify, this false-positive lab sample DOES NOT change the basis for FDA’s ongoing outbreak investigation or the overwhelming epidemiological data supporting the current voluntary recall by Taylor Farms,” a release from the FDA’s website says. “FDA’s traceback investigation and outbreak data continue to converge on shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms from growers in central Mexico. We encourage the public to continue to avoid all products listed in Taylor Farms’ voluntary recall.”
