COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County seniors can apply for real estate tax relief on Tuesday, according to a Monday press release from the Boone County Commission.

Applications are available on the Boone County collector’s website and at the Boone County Government Center. The deadline to apply is June 30, the release says.

Eligible taxpayers include those who are:

  • 62 years old or older by Jan. 1 of the initial credit year;
  • An owner of record of their primary residence or has a legal or equitable interest in such primary residence as evidenced by a written instrument; and
  • Liable for the payment of real property taxes on the homestead.

Voters enacted the relief after approving it in last year’s April election. 2024 was the first year eligible taxpayers were able to use the benefit.

Audrain County will also be participating in the senior real estate tax relief program, applications can be accepted at the collector's office and can be filled out on its website.
