Paperwork problem delays City of Rocheport April elections

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Rocheport paper certifying candidates for the April election led officials to go to court and call a May 6 special election.

A judge on Thursday approved a May election to make up for the upcoming April 8 election, which will not include Rocheport city offices. Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon wrote in an email that the issue stemmed from a misinterpretation of paperwork submitted to the county by Rocheport officials.

The wrong interpretation made it seem that the city had no contested seats in the April election, when in fact it did, Lennon wrote.

Rocheport voters will see races for mayor, and Wards 1 and 2 on ay 6 instead. About 160 people are registered to vote in Rocheport.
