Inspections begin next week on Sturgeon sewer mains

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Camera inspections of sewer mains "south of the railroad tracks" in Sturgeon will begin next week, according to a Thursday social media post from the city.

The inspections will begin Monday, the post says.

“This work is part of a larger initiative funded by a grant awarded to Sturgeon for a study led by McClure Engineering to assess the condition of the City’s sewer system and explore options for future expansion,” the post says. “A key finding from a previous study revealed that the sewer mains in the basins south of the railroad tracks are experiencing significant inflow and infiltration (I&I), with excessive water entering the system. This excess water is putting considerable strain on the current infrastructure, and addressing this issue is a critical priority.”

The city is using $300,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to complete the project, the post says.

The post says the first phase of the project will involve “removing excess water from the lagoon through the installation of a land-applied center pivot system at the Keil Farm;” while the second phase looks to identify the sources.
