CENTRALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The attractions at Centralia's annual Anchor Fest should be safe to ride when the event kicks off at 3 p.m. Friday.

The festival features 25 rides from Tinsley's Amusements. A ride inspection conducted by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety on March 12 approved all the rides as satisfactory.

The oldest ride at the festival will be the merry-go-round, built in 1949. Despite its old age the merry-go-round passed its inspection in all categories.

Some of the categories on the inspection report are daily inspection logs, a maintenance log, safety restraints and having a fire extinguisher for each ride.

Centralia Fire Chief Denny Rusch told ABC 17 his crew is prepared if an injury does happen from a ride malfunction and will be keeping a close eye on the weather throughout the weekend to ensure carnival goers safety.

"We've got medical bags in two different vehicles, so I mean lots of band aids and antiseptics stuff like that. You know, we'll try and pay attention to the weather you know incase something crazy comes on," said Rusch.

Centralia Police Chief Harlan Hatton told ABC 17 he doesn’t expect many problems for this weekend, but his department is prepared if a problem does arise.

“We’ve got a couple extra guys working, but we’ve still got the rest of the city to look after and like I said we don't have a whole lot of problems up here so hopefully things will be most normal and we'll deal with an incident if it arises,” Hatton said.

The festival will take place in downtown Centralia until 5 p.m. Sunday. Schedules and ticket information can be found on the festival's Facebook page.
