Power restored in Boone County after more than 600 lose power

More than 600 Boone Electric Cooperative customers were without power on Wednesday afternoon.

Five outages were reported around 4:18 p.m. on Boone Electric’s online outage map that affected 618 customers. The total number of outages was reduced to 511 by 6:30 p.m. and then it was completely resolved by 8:10 p.m., according to Boone Electric's Facebook page.

Three of the outages were reported near East New Haven Road and another was reported on East Sugar Grove Road. The largest outage was reported at the corner of East New Haven Road and South Winding Trail Drive.

A Boone Electric spokesman told ABC 17 News in an email that a cause for the outage is not yet known and that crews have been dispatched. Boone Electric later stated on its Facebook page that, "Crews discovered an underground equipment failure as the likely cause."
