Road reopens after deadly crash on Highway 124 in northern Boone County
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
One person is dead following a Monday morning crash in northern Boone County on Highway 124, about 880 feet east of Route NN, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.
Samuel Ancell, of Higbee, died in the crash, according to the crash report. He was 51. The report states he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Gale Blomenkamp, of the Boone County Fire Protection District, said the crash involved a car and a recycling truck.
According to the MSHP report, the crash occurred when a 2005 Buick Lesabre – driven by Ancell – was heading eastbound when it crossed the centerline, into the path of a 2021 Kenworth T880 – driven by Frankie Sloan, 35, of Columbia -- and collided with the truck.
The Buick went off the right side of the road and caught fire, according to the report. The truck went off the left side of the road and hit a tree, the report states.
Ancell was pronounced dead at the scene and was brought to Parker-Millard Funeral Home.
Both vehicles were totaled, according to the report. Sloan had no reported injuries and was also not wearing a seatbelt, the report states.
The crash happened on Highway 124 and Route NN just before 7 a.m. The road reopened at about 10:30 a.m.
Boone County Joint Communications sent out an alert at 6:52 a.m. and asked drivers to avoid the area.
