One person killed in crash on Highway 63 near Pinnacles park, two more seriously hurt

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
One person died in a crash on Highway 63 in northern Boone County on Tuesday.

Two other people were taken to University Hospital -- one with serious injuries and one with moderate injuries, said Boone County Fire Protection District Gale Blomenkamp. The T-bone crash involved two vehicles, he said.
Blomenkamp said firefighters found the two vehicles in the median with heavy damage when they arrived. He said the intersection is a frequent spot for crashes.
Joan Broxton, 79, of Columbia, was killed in the crash, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was brought to the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash occurred as a 2011 Kia Soul – driven by Broxton – traveled into the path of a 2017 Toyota Camry – driven by Mary Jecusco, 70, of Kirksville, according to the crash report.
The front of the Toyota hit the driver's side of the Kia. Both vehicles then traveled off the left side of the road and came to rest in the median.
Broxton’s passenger – Robert Larson, 76, of Columbia – had serious injuries and was brought to University Hospital by ambulance.
Jecusco had minor injuries and was brought to University Hospital in a non-emergency vehicle. Her passenger – Angela McMahan, 37, of Kirksville – suffered serious injuries and was brought to University Hospital by ambulance.
Both vehicles were totaled. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash near the Pinnacles Youth Park closed part of Highway 63. Emergency dispatchers alerted the public about the crash asking them to avoid the crash area -- highways 124 and 63. Lanes were closed because of the crash, including a lane of northbound Highway 63.
