One man shot during illegal drug deal on Demaret Drive early Saturday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

UPDATE 2:25 P.M.:

Boone County Sheriff's Office said one man was seriously injured with gunshot wounds when deputies responded to the 700 block of Demaret Drive Saturday morning.

After investigating, the sheriff's office believes the shooting happened during an illegal marijuana sale. From talking to witnesses, the sheriff's office said several rounds of bullets were fired.

There is no information on victims or suspects at the time of publication. The man shot was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to contact them or CrimeStoppers at 573-875-TIPS to stay anonymous.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is investigating after shots were fired in the 700 block of Demaret Dr in northeast Columbia around 4:00 a.m. Saturday.

ABC 17 News crews spoke with the MU Healthcare EMS staff on scene and they said they responded to a shots-fired emergency medical call and transported one person to the hospital.

An elderly woman who lives in the area told ABC 17 news crews she heard five to six gunshots just before 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.

While ABC 17 News crews were on the scene, they saw several evidence markers along with multiple Boone County Deputies investigating the front yard of a home.

As deputies continued to investigate the area, our crews on the scene also saw deputies recover what appeared to be a weapon.

ABC 17 News crews attempted to speak with the deputies on the scene to learn more about what happened. However, they said more information would become available at a later time.
