BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A cow was seriously injured and others were rescued Thursday after the floor of the trailer they were being carried in fell out.

According to Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District, the owner of the cattle was taking them from Iowa to a farm in Owensville.

The driver was driving on Highway 63 when he pulled over on Discovery Parkway around 4:15 p.m. to check on the cattle. That's when he discovered the floor fell out and one of the cows was hanging through the floor.

Firefighters and people from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri helped move 13 cows to a separate trailer. Crews were then able to rescue the injured cow. The cow was taken to a vet in Owensville for treatment.
