COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Dozens of people have gathered outside the Boone County Courthouse to protest the possible overturning of Roe V. Wade.

On Monday night a draft that could overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked from the Supreme Court that would overturn it.

One protester, Annelise Hatjakes says when she heard the news she felt discouraged and sad but she had a different feeling tonight.

"But now I’m feeling invigorated, I am feeling more excited than ever to find ways to advocate for women," said Hatjakes.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed today a leaked court opinion that would throw out long-established abortion rights.

Although the court's decision isn't final, it stirred up some angry conversations in the community.

"It's just going to make abortion less safe because it's not clinically provided and it's going to cause more deaths to the people that are having an abortion. If that doesn’t count as a human life then I don’t know what does," said Columbia resident Vincenzo Mogetta.

Officials with the WE Project and CoMo for Progress hosted a rally to support abortion rights in Missouri and across the country in response to the leaked document from the Supreme Court.

The protest lasted a little more than two hours where several people shared their thoughts about the leaked document from the Supreme Court.

Columbia resident Keira Tieman feels that half of the laws from the Supreme Court don't take into account the circumstances these children could be born into.

"They could be born into terrible terrible physical illnesses into families that don’t particularly want them and I feel like that's the most important thing is that the family wants the child.... not the child had to be born," said Tieman.
