COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County's longest-serving current public official said Tuesday that she will not seek reelection.

Auditor June Pitchford said in a news release that her current term, which expires Dec. 31, 2022, will be her last. Pitchford, a Democrat, was first elected in 1990 and has served eight terms without a challenge to her office.

“Over the course of my career, I have learned much through my interactions with thoughtful and engaged constituents, public officials, and staff; I look forward to working with my successor to ensure a smooth transition going forward,” Pitchford said in the release.

Pitchford has been the county's budget chief, working up proposed budgets for commissioners' review each year. Her office is also responsible for the county's financial accounting and reporting.

Boone County auditor is up for election in 2022.
