Troopers identify woman killed in crash near Centralia

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A ruptured tire caused a fatal crash Tuesday on Highway 22 near Angell School Road in Boone County, authorities say.

The passenger of a 2013 Nissan Maxima, Cassandra Simmerman, 30, of Madison, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The driver, Rachael Hultz, 24, of Clarence, Missouri, was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

A 1993 GMC dump truck was driving east on Highway 22 when a left tire ruptured and caused pieces to come off the vehicle. The pieces hit a 2018 Ford pickup truck that was driving west, the patrol said.

The dump truck hit a 2013 Nissan Maxima as the driver tried to avoid a collision but hit the car's right side, the patrol reported. No one else was injured in the crash and the pickup was driven from the scene.

Simmerman was the third traffic death in the patrol's Troop F region this year.
