Authorities evacuate Sturgeon school because of threat

STURGEON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Authorities evacuated a Sturgeon school because of a threat on Tuesday.

It's the second time in two weeks that the K-8 building has been evacuated because of threats. Last week, an unsubstantiated bomb threat cleared the school.

A news release from Sturgeon Superintendent Geoff Neill said the building was evacuated in minutes. Neill said Boone County Sheriff's deputies and other local law enforcement agencies responded to the school.

University of Missouri police officers brought a K9 unit into the building but no threats were discovered, Neill said. Police from Sturgeon and Hallsville also responded to the school.

The school district said safety protocols are being reviewed following the most recent incident. If any changes are made, district officials will update parents and guardians, the release said.

Neill asked parents and guardians to speak with students that making such threats "carry severe consequences."

The release did not provide information on the basis of the threat.
