BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Sheriff's Department is investigating a Thursday night shooting after a fight allegedly broke out at a home.

Deputies were sent to the 3400 block of South Route O at 7:40 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 52-year-old man suffering from two gunshot wounds, Maj. Tom Reddin said in a news release. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The man and woman who lived at the home were taken to the sheriff's office for further investigation.

Authorities found that the man who was shot was visiting the home, Reddin said. The man allegedly started a fight and was drunk at the time.

The sheriff's department said the shooting happened after the visitor assaulted the woman who lived at the home. The man who lived at the home shot at the visitor after he refused to stop attacking the woman, the department said.

The two residents of the home have since been released from sheriff's department custody.
