COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Audrain County Commission announced in a Friday press release that it passed its senior property tax credit ordinance at its Thursday meeting.

A state law allowing a property tax exemption for seniors went into effect Aug. 28, 2023. The measure was also passed in Boone County by voters last year.

Residents who are 62 years old or older can apply for tax relief on their primary residence on April 1 at the Audrain County Collector’s Office at the first floor of the courthouse, the release says. The deadline to apply is June 30.

““It is important to note that this is not a tax freeze,” Associate Commissioner Leslie Meyer said in the release. “It is a credit and will appear on your tax bill at the end of the year. There are exceptions to this ordinance. For example, new construction is not included.”
