Young sworn in as Ashland interim chief of police
ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)
Scott Young was sworn in as the interim chief of the Ashland Police Department on Thursday morning, the department shared on its social media.
Young previously worked for the Columbia Police Department, where he retired as a lieutenant after 20 years of service and currently works part-time as a law enforcement trainer.
According to the Columbia Police Department, he started in 1997 and was promoted to sergeant over the patrol division six years later. During his time in Columbia, he also served as a SWAT member and was a sergeant of the Narcotics Unit. In 2007, he was promoted to lieutenant over the patrol division.
Young was appointed Tuesday after Ashland Police Chief Gabe Edwards was put on paid administrative leave. He began work Wednesday.
Aldermen met privately in a closed session to discuss the matter. On July 17, Edwards was placed on paid administrative leave for a personnel matter, but the city has not disclosed what the matter pertains to.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office has been overseeing patrol operations in Ashland as city leaders worked to appoint an interim police chief.
