Senate committee to vote to hold Steward Health Care CEO in contempt

BOSTON (AP) — Members of a Senate committee looking into the Steward Health Care bankruptcy said they plan to vote next week to adopt two resolutions to hold Steward CEO Ralph de la Torre in contempt after he refused to attend a hearing Thursday despite being issued a subpoena. One would be for civil enforcement of the subpoena and the other for criminal contempt. If approved, both resolutions would go to the full Senate for a vote. Steward defended de la Torre’s decision, saying it’s inappropriate for him to testify about Steward’s bankruptcy while those proceedings are ongoing but that he could testify at a later date.
