Peltola, Begich, Dahlstrom advance to ranked choice November election in Alaska US House race

Associated Press

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola has advanced to November’s ranked choice general election for Alaska’s lone House seat, along with Republicans Nick Begich and Nancy Dahlstrom. The three were the most prominent candidates in a field of 12 in Alaska’s primary Tuesday. Under Alaska’s open primary system, the top four vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the general election. Tuesday’s primary helps set the stage for what is expected to be a hotly contested race. Republicans are hoping to reclaim the seat, which Republican U.S. Rep. Don Young held for 49 years before his death in 2022.
