Man who confessed to killing 4 people in Maine, including his parents, sentenced to life in prison

Associated Press

WEST BATH, Maine (AP) — A man who confessed to killing his parents and two of their friends and wounding three people in a highway shooting has been sentenced to life in prison. Joseph Eaton pleaded guilty to murder and other charges shortly before he was sentenced Monday. He previously had entered an insanity defense in connection with the crimes committed in Maine, but withdrew it late last year. Anguished family members of the victims gave emotional testimony before the sentencing, and Eaton apologized to them. The April 2023 attacks took place just days after Eaton had been released from a Maine prison on unrelated charges. Authorities say he also has a criminal history in Kansas and Florida.
