Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea’s military says that a suspected hypersonic missile launched by North Korea has exploded. Wednesday’s missile launch by North Korea comes as it’s protesting the regional deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier for a trilateral military drill with South Korea and Japan. The Joint Chiefs of Staff says the North Korean missile blew up as it flew over the waters of the North’s eastern coastal Wonsan city. The Joint Chiefs of Staff says it suspects the weapon is a solid-fueled hypersonic missile. North Korea seeks to acquire such weapons to defeat its rivals’ missile defense systems.
