Oversight board recommends Facebook suspend Cambodian premier’s account for violent language

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — A quasi-independent review board is recommending that Facebook temporarily suspend the social media accounts of Cambodia’s prime minister. The Oversight Board, established by Facebook’s parent company, Meta, issued its nonbinding recommendation Thursday, saying Premier Hun Sen used language on his accounts that could incite violence. The 26-page report also overturns a decision by the platform’s moderators to allow a video on Hun Sen’s page of a January speech in which he decried opposition politicians who accused his ruling Cambodian People’s Party of stealing votes. The board said it reached its recommendation to suspend his Facebook and Instagram accounts due to Hun Sen’s “history of committing human rights violations and intimidating political opponents.”
