Reform-minded prosecutors in northern Virginia win reelection nominations in Democratic primaries

LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — Three incumbent prosecutors in northern Virginia who faced tough challenges after being elected four years ago on a progressive reform agenda have won their Democratic primaries. In Loudoun County, Buta Biberaj won Tuesday over challenger Elizabeth Lancaster. In Arlington County, incumbent Parisa Dehghani-Tafti defeated Josh Katcher, a former deputy in her office. And in Fairfax County, incumbent Steve Descano defeated challenger Ed Nuttall.  Biberaj, Dehghani-Tafti and Descano were all elected four years ago in the wealthy northern Virginia suburbs outside the nation’s capital on progressive reform agendas. This year, their primary opponents largely embraced reform efforts in their campaigns and focused criticism on the incumbents’ day-to-day management of their offices.
