Jury: UPS must pay Missouri family hit by truck $75 million

LIBERTY, Mo. (AP) — A jury has found that UPS Inc. should pay $75 million to a Missouri family, after a driver with a known history of drug abuse collided with a vehicle driven by a pregnant woman. The baby was later born with permanent brain damage. The Kansas City Star reports a Clay County jury on Monday found that UPS should pay the family $65 million in damages and over $10 million in interest. Prosecutors say a UPS truck driven by Steven Ray Miller in May 2018 ran a stop sign and hit a vehicle driven by Jodi Pannell, who was 13 weeks pregnant. UPS says it hasn’t decided whether to appeal the verdict.
