Hazardous spill closes Tucson interstate, forces evacuation
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The deadly crash of a commercial tanker truck has caused hazardous material to leak onto Interstate 10 outside Tucson, shutting down the highway and forcing evacuations within a half mile of the accident. Residents within a mile of the site were ordered to shelter in place for several hours after liquid nitric acid was determined to be leaking from the tanker that rolled over Tuesday afternoon. The shelter-in-place order was lifted Tuesday night but state public safety officials said those who have already been evacuated will remain evacuated. The driver of the truck was killed but few other details have been released.
