Israeli jets strike what army says is Gaza rocket workshop

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The Israeli military says its aircraft have struck a rocket production workshop run by the militant Hamas group in the Gaza Strip. The strike early Thursday came hours after Palestinian militants fired a rocket into Israel’s south. The exchange caused no casualties but further raised tensions during a particularly violent period in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The latest friction point appeared to be over Palestinian prisoners held by Israel on security charges. Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, an ultra-nationalist, has pledged even tougher treatment of the prisoners in recent days. The prisoners are widely revered as heroes in Palestinian society, with virtually every Palestinian family having seen members locked up by Israel.
