Israeli jets strike Hamas site in Gaza after rocket fired

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The Israeli army says it targeted a Hamas military site with airstrikes after militants fired a rocket into the country from Gaza, raising already heightened tensions. The military says the site targeted early Thursday in the central Gaza Strip was used by Hamas for rocket manufacturing. There are no immediate reports of casualties. The army says the rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip and intercepted Wednesday. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rocket. The developments came amid soaring tensions between Israel and the Palestinians under Israel’s new ultranationalist government and just after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited with a call for calm.
