Ohio AG asks justices to lift order blocking abortion law

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Republican Attorney General Dave Yost has asked the Ohio Supreme Court to weigh in on the future of Ohio’s near-ban on abortions, despite arguing in July that the same court lacked jurisdiction to determine the paused law’s constitutionality. Yost appealed for the high court’s intervention Jan. 3. The filing came after a Hamilton County judge preliminarily blocked the law and Yost lost an appeal attempt. He asked justices to reverse that ruling. Yost also wants justices to decide whether the Ohio Constitution guarantees a right to abortion and whether abortion providers have standing to sue to enforce it.
