LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Slovenians have finished voting to elect a new president. Opinion polls gave a right-wing politician the lead going into Sunday’s election but no clear winner in sight. The populist opposition politician wasn’t expected to receive enough votes to avoid a runoff election. Some 1.7 million voters were eligible to pick a successor to incumbent Borut Pahor, who has served two five-year terms and was banned from running for a third. Although the presidency is largely ceremonial in Slovenia, the election was still seen as a test for the country’s liberal government amid the crisis in Europe fueled by Russia’s war in Ukraine.
