FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Remnants of Fred have entered the lower Gulf of Mexico amid forecasts it would regain tropical storm strength late in the weekend as it moves toward the northern U.S. Gulf Coast. Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Grace formed Saturday in the Atlantic and is forecast to move closer to South Florida by midweek. Forecasters say the disorganized remnants of former Tropical Storm Fred are in the southeast Gulf about 530 miles south-southeast of Mobile, Alabama. They believe Fred will regenerate into a tropical storm on Sunday but do not project it will reach hurricane strength. The storm is expected to bring heavy rains to the Southeastern U.S. by Monday.
