WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland has announced steps to end all Russian oil imports by year’s end as Germany issued a warning over natural gas supplies. Also Wednesday, the German government called on people to conserve energy. They are new signs of how Russia’s war in Ukraine has escalated tensions about securing Europe’s energy supplies. Poland’s prime minister said it is launching the most radical plan in Europe to reduce its reliance on Russian oil. It comes a day after it said it would ban Russian coal. The European Union has declined to sanction energy because it depends on Moscow for the fuel needed for cars, electricity, heating and industry. But it’s announced proposals to wean itself off those supplies.
