Missouri lawmakers fail to override Gov. Parson’s vetoes, and instead accept pared-back state budget

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri lawmakers have failed to override any of the governor’s $555 million in budget cuts. The state Legislature convened Wednesday for its annual veto session. Republican Gov. Mike Parson made hefty cuts to the spending plan lawmakers had proposed. Parson says lawmakers tried to spend more than he wanted. He says he mostly cut local projects that would have had limited impact statewide. Lawmakers didn’t attempt to override him on most of those reductions. But the GOP-led House made a fruitless effort to restore some extra funding for law enforcement, seniors and mental health services. Senators sided with the governor.
